It has taken five years of searching through $100 million worth of pearls – 25 harvests from five pearl farms – to arrive at this moment with the perfect specimens laid out before them. Henderson, the head designer of Kailis jewellers in Perth, and Skitmore, his technician, are assembling the most expensive string of pearls they’ve ever done. Each one has been chosen for its perfect roundness, pink hue (the most desirable) and exceptional lustre.

5年かけて、５つの養殖場から、完璧な丸・ピンク色・特別な光沢の真珠を選び、完璧な真珠ネックレスをつくったとのこと。

On the Upswing
More promising news from last week’s Shima Shokai South Sea pearl auction in Kobe; the 42nd annual auction trumped the market-depressed numbers of 2009 with ¥701.64 million versus a dismal ¥236.1 million.

This sign of upswing bodes well leading up to the next two South Sea pearl auctions; Concorde in early February and Paspaley in early March.

オーストラリアの養殖会社アラフラパールが、投資を募っているという記事です。 6950ドル(たぶんオーストラリアドル。約56万円）を払って100個の貝に投資します。 リターンは7年で143%。年利にすると複利計算で5%ちょっとですね。 Pearl-guide.comのコメント欄は

That seems like a bad deal to me and smells of money problems? （ひどいディールだ。お金の問題が臭う）

をはじめ、

（ちょっと値段が高いんじゃないか？） (アラフラよりインドネシアのような小規模な養殖場に投資したほうがいい）

などという否定的な意見が多いです。

もちろん、面白そうだから投資してみようか、という人もいるかもしれません。 その際にはアラフラパールの決算書等にも目を通した方がいいでしょうね。 投資は別にして、白蝶真珠ができる期間の説明はわかりやすいですね。

BANKING on the sea, the country’s first indigenous pearl exporter has called on more indigenous farmers to join him in farming the highly sought after jewellery.(略) Ratu Jone — who farms within three bays Matuku, Urata and Mua Bay in Savusavu — has almost 70,000 oysters and exported 3000 pearls to Japan last year. “This is my bank in the sea,” he said.

昨年は3000個の真珠を日本に輸出したと書いてありますね。
